Hunting Blind (left) was installed below a public hiking trail in the Catskill Mountains. Set in a bucolic landscape, the sculpture was designed to surprise hikers as they find themselves in the position of the hunter’s prey. The Reintroduction of the Beaver (right) is a narrative video that explores the tensions between humans and animals as they vie to assert their power over one another. Filmed in the Catskill Mountains, The Reintroduction of the Beaver follows the strained relationship between a beaver and a well-meaning naturalist who is releasing the animal back into nature. The two characters contront each another in a series of tests of who is more “animalistic” and who can be tamed. Special thanks to the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development and the Platte Clove Artist-in-Residence program. | |
